failures | 028 [video/action for the Burned Tower]

[When the feed starts up, nothing can be seen. However, the melancholy tune of the Burned Tower can be heard, as well as coughing from whoever the 'Gear owner is. Finally, Larry aims the 'Gear properly at himself. It's pretty dark in there.]

Wh-What the heck?! How did I get in the Burned Tower...? I was in Goldenrod when I to bed!

[He shivers, looking around.]

And I'm pretty sure I'd put a freakin' coat on before coming here.

Wooobbuffet...

[says Larry's starter, the only Pokemon that seems to be with him right now. He sounds just as distressed as Larry does.

Larry appears to be taking a few steps before looking off toward Wobbuffet.]

Oh, hey Wobbuffet! At least I'm alone in this, h--WAAAAUGH!

W-Wobba!!

[And looking away while walking was his mistake, because he just walked off the ledge in the middle of the floor and fell to the basement level of the tower. The feed cuts out shortly after he hits the ground.]

About 20 Minutes Later:

[The feed roughly comes to life on Larry's end, and now he's outside of the tower. He looks as white as a ghost. That fall scared the hell out of him. He couldn't care less about the pain in his back right now. At least his 'Gear survived the fall.]

I didn't think I'd see my life flash before my eyes in Johto of all places. [a shudder] Remind me to never go inside that tower again.

Wobba...

So uh...anyone else having weird stuff happening to them?

[The driver finally alights from his motorcycle, and turns toward Larry's direction. However, he briefly shifts his attention to his Houndour, which lets out a bark. A single hand gesture quiets the Pokémon.

Then at last, he approaches Larry, and takes off his helmet. Surprise!]

...Larry?

[WELP. It's really good old Edgeworth, suddenly in the middle of Ecruteak. On a motorcycle.

This day is just weird.

Larry immediately leaps back the steps he just took.]

Yeah yeah, in the flesh. But we gotta skip the intro questions, 'cause I have one way more important.

[He points at the bike.] What the heck are you doing driving a motorcycle?!

[He tucks his helmet under his arm and sighs. He was hoping to get his questions in first, but apparently Larry won't let him.]

I took driving lessons, passed, and received my license. Death City's streets are far too narrow to admit cars.

...although I assume I am no longer in Death City.

... The heck is Death City?

[Does that answer your question, Edgeworth?]

[WELL DEATH CITY DOESN'T HAVE WEIRD-LOOKING DOGS WITH SKULLS ON THEIR HEADS OR SOMETHING.]

It is a city in the middle of war. I was transported to it by a...demon tool, and granted a certain power to help fight...supernatural elements. I know everything sounds quite ludicrous, but I have seen and heard many things I would have called ludicrous back home.

...Would you happen to know where we are, then? And why I have a strange dog following me?

[Larry pauses to mull that over...]

Don't worry Edgey, I can definitely say the same for this place. So you know what? I'll buy your story.

This is Johto, and that's your Pokemon. He's a Houndour.

[He motions to his blue blob of a companion.]

This is my first Pokemon, Wobbuffet.

[Wobbuffet gives Edgeworth a salute.]

[The "strange dog" leaps out of the sidecar, eager to join his master. Clearly, following him paid off in the form of a bike ride. Now he's standing dutifully beside the prosecutor, awaiting orders (and possibly eyeing the Wobbuffet rather suspiciously).

Said prosecutor doesn't know what to say to the Wobbuffet, though, and will just nod once, in understanding.]

I...I see. And what am I supposed to do with my...Houndour?

[Larry sighs dramatically.]

Come on Edgey, didn't you pay any attention to me and Nick when we played the games? You train him and have him battle other Pokemon!

[He never pays attention when you guys play, remember? THE STICK IN THE MUD WOULD PREFER TO STICK HIS NOSE IN A BOOK.]

If you recall, I had better things to do than play video games.

And what do I get for my victories? [The Houndour looks up at him, and he stares right back. Finally, the dog lover within Miles wins, and he concedes by giving the Houndour a quick pat on the head. The Pokémon relaxes slightly, but remains focused on Larry and the Wobbuffet.]

Like what? Studying? Pfft!

[Oh Edgey, you and your boring hobbies.]

You get lots of stuff. Money, badges... [He rifles through his pockets to pull out his case of six badges, which he proudly flashes at Edgeworth. TOTALLY COOLER THAN A PROSECUTOR'S BADGE BY THE WAY.] And you can catch more Pokemon for your team! I've got around nine myself.

[He's quite affronted at that. WELL SORRY, HE CAN'T HELP IT IF HE'S THE ONE WHO ACTUALLY PAYS ATTENTION IN CLASS.

And - oh. Badges. HAH, MY PROSECUTOR'S BADGE STILL OWNS. IT ACTUALLY HAS MORE MEANING AND I EARNED IT AFTER BREAKING MY BACK OVER LEARNING LAW AND THE BAR EXAM SO THERE.]

Do I receive a clue as to the way out? And do you even have the means to take care of so many...Pokémon?

[In his honest opinion, Larry + pets = not a good combination.]

Nnnnnnope! Sorry 'bout that. I've been here almost a year and a half and still no clues.

And hey, of course I do! [He huffs.] I'll have you know that all my Pokemon obey me now. [key word: now] And with my help they've turned into awesome battlers!

... [Well, geez. Out of one you-can't-leave world and into another. And it looks like Larry's got it worse, having been around for one and a half years. Miles had only been in Death City for what, over five months tops?]

"Now".

[He emphasizes that word. Uh-huh. Yeah, sure, Larry. Even the Houndour doesn't seem convinced.]

Pfft, whatever! Now's all that matters anyway.

[Whatever Houndour, you don't even know him! 8| But Wobbuffet seems to agree with his trainer, as he's nodding along with everything Larry says.]

[Houndour sticks to whatever his trainer says, shush. >_>]

Anyway, I was driving through the streets of Death City, and then I suddenly found myself here. Would you happen to know how people are brought to Johto, at least?

[He's still not over the motorcycle thing, but he won't say anything about it for now.]

That's another negative, sorry. A lot of people are saying that Team Rocket has something to do with it though. They're the obligatory evil criminal organization of the Pokemon world.

[LARRY, YOU ARE NOT TO BE TRUSTED WITH A MOTORCYCLE. Also, this is a Houndour approaching your Wobbuffet. Cautiously.]

Team Rocket...can you tell me more about them?

[WHAT. 8C He's totally trustworthy...!]

Seriously, Edgey? They're like the most well known--ugh, never mind. [What ever will he do with you, Edgeworth?] They were in the old games but you beat them in it. I dunno if they have a new leader now or, what, but they're still around in Johto. They usually wear all black with giant red R's on the shirt. Their main thing is stealing rare Pokemon, but people think they might be behind us being here too.

[As Larry is explaining Team Rocket, Wobbuffet notices the Houndour getting closer. He bounces over, doing his usual salute stance.
